Design Overview

The desk is characterized by its dramatic asymmetrical silhouette. It features a cantilevered aesthetic where the weight of the work surface is supported by a complex, branch-like wooden structure on one side and a solid storage unit on the other.

Material & Construction Details

• Frame: Typically crafted from solid oak or canaletto walnut. The wood is steam-bent or precisely carved into an aerodynamic “bone-like” shape, reflecting Mollino’s interest in aeronautics and anatomy.

• Top: The work surface is usually a thick sheet of extra-clear tempered glass (often 12mm thick) with beveled edges. The transparency of the glass allows the intricate wooden support structure to be visible from all angles.

• Storage Units: * Right Side: A pedestal featuring five drawers, often finished in a matching wood veneer with a glossy black lacquered top.

  • Left Side: A smaller, single-compartment “vanishing” drawer unit or open tray integrated into the support arm.

• Hardware: Subtle metal accents, often in black or chrome, are used at the joints and tension points to ensure structural stability despite the delicate appearance.
